Summers Corner is a traditional neighborhood inspired by historic Low Country settlements near Charleston, South Carolina. The site’s history as a rice and tree plantation guided the design, preserving key features, including the historic farmstead foundation, rows of mature live oaks along the entrance road, and a slave cemetery, which now serves as a central element of one of the neighborhood parks.
While at LBA Landscape Architecture, I contributed to the development of the pattern book, schematic design, and design development for all parks and open spaces, with the local landscape architect involved in the project. The design ensured that the neighborhood’s public realm was both functional and respectful of its historical context. Summers Corner is a walkable and lively community with easy access to all the unique site elements.
