In 2017, the University of Pittsburgh identified an opportunity to transform Schenley Quad when issues were found with the roof deck over a below-grade parking garage. What had been a parking lot became a vibrant outdoor gathering space for studying, relaxing, informal gatherings, and small events for the student body.
While at LBA Landscape Architecture, I served as project manager, working on the project from design through construction. I was specifically responsible for finalizing the site design, grading, landscape, and site details, ensuring both functionality and a thoughtful, engaging outdoor experience.
Following the project’s success, we extended the pedestrian network across the adjacent WPU grounds and converted Bigelow Boulevard into a shared, complete street, thereby creating a continuous open-space framework that connects three primary campus addresses.
The completed work includes the revitalized Schenley Quad, a flexible WPU forecourt plaza, and a multimodal Bigelow Boulevard, all of which enhance campus connectivity and student life.
