Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial

The Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial was created in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and Pittsburgh Fire Fighters IAFF Local No. 1 to honor the courageous firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty, dating back to the late 1800s. Located at the Union Hall in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood, the memorial was envisioned as a place of remembrance, reflection, and respect for generations of firefighters and their families.

Working closely with Bureau leadership and stakeholders, the design sought to create a dignified and timeless memorial space that balances ceremonial function with quiet contemplation. The project integrates commemorative elements, gathering space, and carefully considered site detailing to support both public and personal moments of remembrance.

The memorial was officially unveiled during a public ceremony attended by civic leaders, union representatives, firefighters, and the families of the fallen. The dedication serves as a lasting tribute to the sacrifice, service, and legacy of Pittsburgh firefighters who gave their lives protecting the community.
