Frankie Pace Park reconnects the Hill District, a historic African American neighborhood, to downtown Pittsburgh by spanning above Interstate 579. While at LBA Landscape Architecture, I served as the project manager, overseeing the project from conceptual design through construction. I was responsible for coordinating and finalizing the site design, grading, landscape, and detailing, ensuring both functionality and a thoughtful, engaging public space.
The project included an extensive public engagement process and the integration of three local artists from the Hill District and one national artist from Baltimore, celebrating the history and culture of the Lower Hill neighborhood. The park’s land-based segments and bridge infrastructure shaped the layout of use areas, with accessibility as a key priority given the substantial grade change. Green infrastructure, including the event lawn and terraced rain gardens, managed stormwater while supporting vibrant, functional spaces for the community.
